They are designed to call attention to obstructions that are near the roadway. They also call attention to themselves like a tropical bird or a vibrant flower.

We live in a time where our built landscapes and the objects we create are in competition with “nature”. The distinction between what is “natural” and what is made is less clear and so far, nature always seems to win. Plants sneak up through cracks in the sidewalk and weather deteriorates our objects and structures. Will we ever reach the point where our created objects can emulate nature’s power?
